Tutor Profile: Personal description:
I completed my PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Liverpool in 2010 and have recently moved to the Cambridgeshire area where I am now a full-time mother. I have a first class BSc. (Hons) in Biochemistry with Medical Biochemistry from the University of Leeds. I have worked in research at the University of Liverpool, in the Biotech industry and at the Cancer Research Institute in Manchester. During my career I have focussed on a range of areas in biology, including the immune system, cellular processes and function and cancer.
I’m a friendly, relaxed and approachable person who has a passion for finding a way of enabling others to understand difficult ideas and concepts.

Teaching experience:
Throughout my PhD I taught on several different undergraduate biology practical modules, all to students in their first year at University. These modules all involved building on existing knowledge from A-level, and introducing brand new, and sometimes difficult to understand concepts and practical skills.
I have also been responsible for the tuition and supervision of masters students during their final year practical project. Finally, prior to moving to Cambridge I spent two years volunteering at the Catalyst Science Museum in Runcorn, helping run a Saturday Science club for children aged 10-16 aimed at making science fun and accessible.

Tutoring style:
My main aim is to provide an environment where students feel able to ask questions. In this way I would look to identify any problem areas on which to focus, and develop a dialogue on the subject in order to develop a better understanding of key concept and ideas. Coupled with practice in revision and exam technique, I would hope to help build the students confidence and their enthusiasm and appreciation for science.
