It's back to work this week for many tutors working in schools, colleges and universities with planning, scheduling and staff training before the full force of the return of students kicks in. It hardly matters how long the summer last - the first week of September always seems to hit with a sudden blow as thoughts and routines that have lain dormant over the last six to eight weeks begin again to come to the fore. If you're feeling a little disorientated, take courage. One thing for certain, the new academic year always brings new inspiration to learn, to tackle new horizons and to pursue long-held dreams, so make sure you're ready with an updated profile to meet the new influx of parents, students and adult learners searching for tutorial support. You can also take comfort from another great line-up in the latest Tutor Network newsletter awaiting you...

His work is particularly interesting both for those with children of their own and those who tutor children, who would like to find out more about helping children to focus and think in greater depth about themes and ideas explored in the curriculum as well as everyday life. Anger at proposed new Code of Conduct for teachers This week educationalists vent their anger at the General Teaching Council for England's (GTC) controversial new Code of Conduct and Practice. The code has met with a great deal of criticism from teachers and teachers' unions who say that the terms of the code are too vague and open to interpretation. The NASUWT says that should the code be implemented this October, it could endanger jobs and careers of teachers across the country. The story comes at a time when the government is being openly disparaged over other education policy recommendations. Find out more. New graduate scheme hailed as success A new graduate scheme launched by Graduate Works, an innovative company aiming to improve prospects for graduates, is being hailed as a success. The scheme was launched in the West Midlands with the goal of bringing together small/medium enterprises and recent graduates in an effort to improve the standard of support and training available. The pilot scheme was such a success that a further project has been launched in the near-by Black Country. You can read more about it here.
