Private tuition increase: boom or bust?

Recent media coverage has been flooded with reports of students seeking private tuition support. What is happening to the education system? Does it need an overhaul, or are teachers being put under too much pressure to pass exams rather than teach a wider curriculum?...read more

-------Updates from Tutors Directory

Connect with other tutors and learners

All registered members of Tutors Directory can use the Learning Forum to post questions and comments for others in the tutor community read. Registered users also have exclusive access to the Learning Community (you will see this menu link on your profile when you log in) that enables you to set up private connections with other tutors or learners. This is ideal if you want to set up an interest group or get in touch with someone without everyone else seeing your message - as with the forum.

Workshop Directory coming soon!

We are counting down the days for the launch of our sister site, the Workshop Directory, which will list workshops in every subject for people of all ages. Workshops are a wonderful way to learn if you like your learning short, practical and interactive. They are also an ideal way to network with like-minded professionals. The Workshop Directory will allow you to publicise an unlimited number of your workshops to a wide audience and will also include categories such as seminars and webinairs.

-----Five ways to enhance your profile

We are all attracted to things that look nice and bright, and so having a tutor profile that catches the eye is important. If you have a profile listed on Tutors Directory, here are five ways to enhance it so that parents and learners searching for your service will not miss you.

1.    Add pictures: Adding a picture to your profile will help bring it to life; visual aids make it more interesting to look at and it also gives you the opportunity to visually promote your work. As an example if you provide a creative service you could post a picture of your work. Tutors Directory allows you to do this at no extra cost.

2.    Add a logo: Using a logo helps to brand your service and helps clients to recognise the brand when viewed elsewhere, for example if you have a website. Again, there is no extra cost for adding a logo to your profile.

3.    Broaden your horizons: If you’re looking to reach more students then also offering your tutoring services online could be the way forward. To find out more see How to become a better e-tutor.

4.    Make the most of your categories: You can list the type of subject you teach in up to five categories, so even if you teach just one subject try to think of other areas that the subject will relate to, which will enhance its searchability. For example, the subject English lends itself well to Creative Writing, Essay Writing and Proofreading.

5.    Introduce yourself: When filling in your entry details, remember to fill in your tutor profile. Here you can provide more detailed information about the tutoring service you offer, such as details about the subject you teach, your teaching qualifications and experience, your teaching style or anything unique about your tutoring service.
