Eton has closed temporarily after a pupil was diagnosed with swine flu, as the total number of cases in the UK rose above 200. On the 27th May the Berkshire school, which was attended by Princes William and Harry, was informed that a 13-year-old boy had tested positive for the H1N1 virus and was advised by health authorities to close until June 7th. The Health Protection Agency are following up any pupils that may have come into contact with the boy that tested positive. Pupils who are due to take public examinations are being allowed to return to do so under controlled conditions. It comes after health officials announced a further 17 people in the UK were diagnosed with the virus, taking the total number of cases to 203, with the largest outbreak linked to a school in the West Midlands. British scientists have now announced that a swine flu vaccine prototype has been created which will soon enable manufacturers to begin large scale production. The Department of Health has secured contracts with vaccine manufacturers for 90m doses, enough for half the population (as it is thought each person will need two jabs), to be delivered by December.
