Speaking at the Association of Teachers and Lecturer’s annual conference in Liverpool, Ed Balls, the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, said the current Key Stage 2 system was not set in stone and that he would be working with parents and teachers to reform it after the report from the expert group on testing.

Seventy percent of parents value some type of primary testing as it provides information on their child’s performance, according to a new survey published by Ed Balls.

The DCSF’s expert group on assessment, made up of educational professionals and headteachers, was set up to review the national tests last autumn and will report their findings at the beginning of May.
